Confession

Readers i have a confession to make: I hated "the notebook". Yes, i know hate is a strong word but i fully mean it, and while i type this i feel like im betraying my female nature but i have to say that movie was awful and long. It didnt even make me cry i had to pretend to be sad and i cried watching a walk to remember and the last song heck i even cried when Nemo was reunited with his dad. I know this may upset people but i find no beauty in the plot i mean yes she gets Alzheimer at the end and he oh so romantically reads her their "story" everyday so she can remember him for 5 min then goes back to hate him? They dont show you this but im pretty sure somewhere deep down anger is building inside him and one day he just shook her for not remembering him and then she died from a heart attack because of the shock (now thats entertaining). I will never understand people's fascination with the movie theyre in love then theyre angry then they love each then they dont talk then he builds her a house then she becomes a really old lady who cant remember her own husband. All im saying is, a good romantic movie is hard to find these days and so our standards became so very low (damn you twilight). This truly saddens me.

You may now precede to tell how im wrong about this.

p.s: i think my anger in this post is more towards the fact that i start junior year in less than a month and im very freaked out about it.

The Bane of My Existance

I hate call of duty, hate it , loathe it, and wish for its creator to drop dead, come back, then drop dead again. Everytime my brother plays that game i have stop my downloads every single time sometimes i just wanna go downstairs and burn the CD and i know it's not just my brother cause all my friends suffer from the same problem i blame my frustration on boys and their inability to focus on things other than sports, cars, food, diwaniyas, and games where they kill people. Mean while i've drawn the cartoon above to release my suppressed anger so i dont get in a fight with my big brother and end up buried somewhere in the house.

The Real Mystery of "LOST"

I havent watched LOST in two year but i remember i used to be a huge fan back in middle school so when i saw the series finale was on show series today i thought i should watch it (it really sucked) but all i could think of was "Damn Hurley's been stranded for 6 seasons and he still hasnt lost weight". I mean seriously isnt anyone else intrigued?

I have a few theories:

1. He's like camel he ate so much before the crash that his body started storing food till when he really needed.
2. The island kept him fat because that's what makes him cheerful and he would lose that if he lost weight like Il Jasmy lost his voice when he became thin.
3. My version of the finale: there was no food left on the island so they kill Hurley and eat him till they run out of food.

I know the show isnt the most realistic one but i still dont understand why they didnt make him lose weight.. just doesnt make sense...

Zain... Which Hell Hole Did You Escape From?

Before i begin this post i have to clarify im not really a cellphone person, i actually dont mind living without them and anyone who knows me will tell you that if they needed something or wanted something they would tweet me or facebook or even flickr but the chances of me checking my phone is extremely narrow. Moving on, before i left for Germany Zain sent me the *pay your bill text* which i ignored cause even when they cut my line i can still get it back but when i came back they had finally manned up and fully shut down my line even after i paid the amount they texted me. So i was faced with a dilemma 1. tell dad i didnt pay and i lost my line or 2. pretend im not into phones anymore. So i chose 2 till my brother outed me after futoor today because he couldnt call me yesterday, i told them i was too much of a wimp to call Zain and face the fact i needed a new number so my brother told me to check that i did pay my bill fully. Guess what? Zain neglected to tell me that there were 5 K.D unpaid. Zain i hate you, you are as bad as Voldemort but you're even worse because you dont have and awesome name and terrible commercials and no I dont want to buy a freaking blackberry because i know it wont cost me just 30 bucks so stop messing around. Go back to hell *dirty look*

Now i dont have to ask because i know for a fact everyone has an issue or a story they went through with Zain hit me up with your worst..

Crunching The Numbers

Sometimes I feel like I have a million and one things to worry about; societal obligations, personal goals, academic standards...these things can pile up and before you know it, you're screaming into your pillow out of sheer frustration. I've always considered myself to be a cool cat that can roll with the punches, but it's the things that I can't always control that drive me nuts. Whenever I am in need of some serious release I always go back to my tried and true methods:
  1. Chatting with a friend: I can always guarantee myself a good laugh when I talk to the people I love the most.
  2. A long, hot shower: I don't think this one needs a lot of explanation, and since it's summer in Kuwait, there is always plenty of hot water.
  3. Cranking up the Rock'n'Roll and pounding some pavement: I'm not athletic by any means (Mega-klutz alert!), but I've always enjoyed running. Granted, I haven't really been able to run outdoors like I used to in Canada, but the gym I go to has a decent track that helps me out on those days when I feel like pulling a Scarface and introducing everyone to a little friend of mine. Chyeah.
Punching the dry-wall,

S.

Current Irritation: Call of Duty

My big brother loves this game, i on the other hand want to break the CD, throw it in the trash, and pretend it mysteriously disappeared. Every time he plays the game i have to stop my downloads because i "lag" him so i have to sit for hours waiting for him to finish so i can watch youtube and download stuff. I honestly tried to understand why all the boys ages 7 to 30 play during friday lunch. All i could see was them killing other "soldiers" and praising each other on their artistic kills, is this what we stooped to? And back when i played play station (the golden age of pokemon) u get three lives tops then you die, but from what i gather the number of time you die in this game is infinite! not only that, but you get a "kill cam" to see how you died. So to show my utter annoyance i drew a very retarded cartoon for you dear readers.

If you're a person who plays the game PLEASE tell me whats so damn fascinating about it? and does anyone have the same problem?

Dont Mess With a Classic

I am a die hard movie addict but nothing pisses me off more than a book adaptation that changes the entire story or a really bad remake. "The Karate Kid" remake was one of those two. Don't get me wrong the movie was enjoyable and sort of funny but here are the top things that bugged me about it:

1. The movie is called KARATE kid not KUNG FU Kid the title should reflect the movie

2.it would be great if all the characters were not 12 for the story to be believable.

3. If this movie was supposed to be for kids i dont understand why Mr. Han (Mr. Miyagi) has to get drunk on chinease whiskey and bash a car that was depressing.

4. Hiring an accent coach wouldve been a good idea because i seriously could not take the bully seriously.

5. I know its a remake and the plot should be the same but they should have kept "Wax on/ Wax off" that line is GOLD.

6. DO NOT play lady gaga on a PG movie that's just bad parenting i get it's dance dance revolution but they could always put a disney song god knows those arent that innocent anymore.

7. Jayden's cornrows are cool but im pretty sure that's not the first time Chinese people see them for god's sake why do they keep asking to touch his hair that's pure RACIST!

and the most annoying thing is:

8. YOU DO NOT MESS WITH THE CRANE: the last moment of karate kid where he does the crane move that's when everything comes together! you have to at least respect that instead they give you a lame snake move , not cool Jayden Smith.

point is my children will see the original and if one of them dares claiming this is the better version i will disown them.

what did you guys think of the movie?

Youth Of Today, Idiots Of Tomorrow

The above picture is heart-warming, but I just don't like children. Never have, and probably never will.

However, if you're about to jump out of you chair and call me heartless, vicious, or even accuse me of begin dead on the inside (which I take as a compliment), allow me to turn the tables on you. Why are you not questioning the logistics of the picture above? Where are the parents of this child? Is he even old enough to be introduced to solid foods? Has that water-melon been treated with pesticides? Is it safe to eat? *Insert wry smile*

Gotcha!

Moral of the lesson: question and judge your own damn self before playing judge and jury to those around you.

Always aiming to infuriate,

S.

Freedom To Be An Ass

**If you check out the post before this one, you will see how my unbelievably sage friend defended her point in such an eloquent and peaceful manner that the imbecile who was arguing with her had nothing to reply with. It goes without saying that this pleased me to no end**

I'm a person that struggles with the issue of faith on a daily basis. No, scratch that; I struggle with faith on an hourly basis. I discuss religion with my friends, teachers and peers. I listen, I argue and I frequently offend. Sometimes I come to some great conclusions backed up by solid points, and other times I just make noise. Either way, the reason I like talking about faith is because it is my way of understanding, and ultimately, accepting the concept of religion. However, I do try to limit my offensive musings to the domain of my own faith. Care to know why that is? Well, simply put:

1) I don't know what teachings are in the holy books that I have not studied
2) Even if I had somewhat of an idea as to what was in there, I would not have the background and understanding of that faith to understand the contextual meaning.
3) It is just plain ignorant.

Newsflash: not all Muslims are terrorist, nor do they care to be one. Terrorism is such a lengthy and complex topic to delve into, that I won't even attempt to have at it. Also, that's not the real reason as to why I am writing this post. I'm writing this post in an attempts to tell the three of you who will read this that we are all human. We use religion as a compass, a crutch and a blanket to comfort us during those dark times when we just need something to believe in. Everyday, I see how a variety a religions usher peace and acceptance into the hearts of the people around me. I must admit I often find myself envying them, because I still grapple with my own grasp on faith. There seems to be something about religion that helps people find the strength to work through their problems. Despite the fact it doesn't impact me in that way, I still admire that quality in religion. Why anyone would attempt to take this away is beyond me. There is enough hate and anger in the world to last through an extended screening of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, and then some. We don't need to go around creating more animosity (ahem, Denmark).

I'll be honest, I've said my share of infuriating sacrilegious things and frequently mock what I often fail to understand. However, I do try to listen to what people say (read: yell) to me in regards to these situations, and I think about them more often than they would imagine. To some, it's natural to feel some subconscious urge to disagree with a notion held sacred by a large amount of people. There are ways of going about this and voicing your opinion, but there is a line and even I'll admit that. At the end of the day, we are all entitled whatever it is we want to be entitled to, and we can challenge and debate the things we don't agree with or understand. However, a clean fight is a fair fight for a reason. It is one rule, DON'T DRAW THE PROPHET. I have no idea why some cartoonists can not just accept it as a limitation. If it was ever meant to be funny or insightful, well let me tell you that it is neither of those things.

The premise is simple: Don't draw the Prophet. How hard is that? Discuss the teachings, argue the fundamentals or even question the approach; everything is all "fair game". I like to think we have reached a stage in our global society that allows for discussion, debate and even questioning. Throughout history, progress has often been the result of pushing the boundaries of what is acceptable. However, it is noteworthy to pay attention to the pushing part of that last sentence. Not to burst your bubble, but never has ignorance and crude behavior lead to anything worthwhile, not even for one as great as myself.

Over and out,

S.

Leave comments and tell me what you think. Rock my world with your opinions on this matter.

"What goes around, comes around" (and its a poor tipper)

Brace yourself, this is a double perspective piece :D

I've lived by the motto my entire life, anywhere else in the world i would have been called a bookworm and left alone, but in Kuwait being 10 and having the ultimate "captain underpants" series stuffed into your locker means being bullied. As far as i can remember i was always called "weird" because i read. What really bothers me is that they ignore the girls with the bee hives on their heads and people who aren't sure which continent they live on but because i prefer to educate myself I'M weird. I think the moment i truly accepted my bookworm existence is when i was crying in middle school and my English teacher told me: "well look at Bill Gates! the people that told him he was a geek and a bookworm now work in McDonalds" imagining my privileged peers in a Mcdonald's uniform handing out french fries gave me the faith that i wasnt weird. Let us not forget that other than the annual book fair we don't have any decent book shops. I'm 15 now and people still ask me why i read, i answer "why the hell not? " Kuwait i love you, you might be the only country that censors chicken little kissing the ugly duckling in the cinema but instead of making students study "why the west view the Arab world as retarded" in Arabic class how about you urge the citizens to crack a book every once in a while?

- Obsessco

Hey there, it's S. again.

Growing up, I was nothing short of a freak. I preferred to spend my time alone; I just didn't understand children my age, and didn't find the "Stuart Little" movies funny or charming in the least. Suffice to say, the other kids left me to my own devices. When life in Maple Syrup Land got boring or there was 10 feet of snow blocking the door, I always turned to books. The other kids may or may not have taunted me for my reading habits, but I don't quite recall as I never actually listened when they spoke. I think it goes without saying that little children irk me.
Just before my move to Kuwait, I was going through about 6-9 full length novels, a week whilst maintaining a respectable grade average. I avoided moody teenagers like the plague; I just didn't have the time or energy to let them know how pathetic their lives would become once they graduated high school with a fifth grade reading level. It's called Karma. Google it.
However, aside from assigned reading material, I find myself having a hard time just wanting to read. It goes without saying that for all the things I am ridiculed for, reading too much falls low on the list of priorities. Either way, it doesn't really matter since the girls that annoy my eyeballs out of their sockets probably wouldn't be able to read the list.
Moral of the blog post: Don't worry when it comes to your tormentors; their high school years were the peak. You may or may not find them delivering your pizza on a cold Wednesday night, and that time they tripped you during an assembly gives you a completely legitimate reason to not to tip their sorry ass.

Current Irritation

Kuwait we have a problem.
Kuwaitis, mostly the female population, have a problem recognizing the actual functions of sunglasses. Now let me clarify they are supposed to be worn OUTDOORS so your EYES wont get damaged. Instead of i dont knw? wearing them in malls to "look cool" or just sitting in starbucks and staring at people. tara just because they hide your eyes doesnt mean we cant see the direction of where you're looking. Honestly do yourselves a favor andd take them off they make you look really stupid.
